De vrouwelijke lezers van dit e-zine zullen bij deze kop denken aan de acteur met een geslacht als een paard die geregeld wordt genoemd in Sex And The City, de mannelijke lezers denken waarschijnlijk aan de hardrockband die in de jaren tachtig en negentig een paar hits scoorde met To Be With You en Green Tinted Sixties Mind. In dit bericht gaat het natuurlijk over de band.

Na een succesvolle reünietour in 2009 besloten zanger Eric Martin, gitarist Paul Gilbert, bassist Billy Sheehan en drummer Pat Torpey om een nieuw album op te nemen. Dat album heet What If en verschijnt op 21 januari bij het Frontiers label. What If is feitelijk de opvolger van Hey Man dat in de vorige eeuw verscheen. Het album werd geproduceerd door Kevin Shirley die recentelijk werkte met Iron Maiden en Black Country Communion.

Paul Gilbert over de opnamen: “This is the first Mr. Big album I have been a part of, since fourteen years and it was done in a snap. It was fun and we had really a good time in making this one”.

Billy Sheehan: “It’s so great to be back with Paul, Eric and Pat too. We wrote this record like we did in the old days for the first 2 records. Jamming together in the same room to write songs”.

Pat Torpey: “Some of the recording process is different now from what we were used to in the old times. But I think this record really managed to capture the performances of the band, not of the individual musicians”.

Eric Martin: “I like to compare this to the first album, when we just got to know each other in a reharsal studio and cut it in 8 or 9 days. This is like chapter 2. We had so many years, so many records and so many things behind us. Now this feels like a beautiful brand new chapter starting for all of us”.

Na de release gaat de band op tournee in Zuid-Amerika. Europese data worden verwacht in mei en juni.
