Nirvana en Kiss worden in 2014 opgenomen in de Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Iedereen die de geschiedenis van dit instituut kent, wist dat Nirvana op enig moment zou worden opgenomen. In het geval van Kiss was dat minder evident. De band wordt al jaren genoemd, maar viel telkens buiten de boot. Dankzij publieksstemmen krijgt het 40 jarig jubileum van het kwartet uit New York komend jaar wat meer cachet. De inauguratie vindt plaats op 10 april 2014 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Vrijwel direct nadat bekend werd dat Kiss werd opgenomen begonnen de geruchten over een nieuwe reünie van de originele bezetting met Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley en Peter Criss. Eerder dit jaar zei Simmons niet te willen samen spelen met Frehley en Criss. Hij vergeleek zijn voormalige bandmaatjes zelfs op zeer ongepaste wijze met kanker. “How many chances in life to do you get? Those guys had three chances to be in the band. Three times they fucked it up.” Deze week kwam hij met ander antwoord. Gevraagd (door Rolling Stone magazine) of de originele guitarist en drummer mee mochten spelen op het inauguratiefeestje zei hij: “Sure, why not? They were equally important in the formation of the band. When you have kids with your first wife, you give kudos. The fact you got remarried doesn’t delete or minimise the important.” Hij voegde er wel aan toe: “Kiss is Tommy Thayer, Eric Singer, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. It’s like, if you introduced me to your wife and I go, Wait, where are all the other wives? You can argue that point and we’ll figure everything out as time goes on. This one is for the fans. If the fans didn’t care, we wouldn’t be here. If it meant nothing to them, we wouldn’t be here.”

Stanley zei: “Peter and Ace are undeniably at the beginning of the band. I wholeheartedly embrace and acknowledge Peter and Ace.” Ook hij voelde weinig voor een nieuwe reünie. “Giving anybody a sense that we would ever go back to that situation is totally off the table. We’ve done that and it crashed for very similar reasons both times. Things have moved on. I say without any animosity and with all respect that we wouldn’t be here without what Peter and Ace contributed and we wouldn’t be here with them today.”

Ace Frehley voorspelt dat het wel tot een reünie concert komt: “It’s going to be intense, but it’s going to be great. I don’t foresee any negative vibes. We’re the four guys that started the group and brought it into international success. I think that sometime in the late 1970s we were listed as the number one group in the world by some polls. We achieved what most people only dream about. I’ll never forget it, and that’s something nobody can take away from me.”

Naast vragen over de reünie, leven bij de Kiss army (fanclub) ook vragen over andere voormalige bandleden zoals Bruce Kulick en Vinnie Vincent en of de band een eerbetoon zal brengen aan de veel te vroeg overleden drummer Eric Carr.

Naast Nirvana en  Kiss worden ook Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates en Linda Ronstadt opgenomen in de Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Om toegelaten te worden moet het debuut tenminste vijfentwintig jaar oud zijn en je moet als band of artiest natuurlijk wel wat betekend hebben in het muziekgenre. Bands die wel genomineerd waren maar er naast grepen waren: The Replacements, N.W.A., Chic, The Zombies, Deep Purple, The Meters en Yes.
