De Engelse progrock formative Anathema zal op 10 juni haar nieuwe album Distant Satellites uitbrengen op het Kscope label. Net als voorganger Weather Systems uit 2012 werd het album geproduceerd door Christer-André Cederberg. De Noor nam ook de mix voor zijn rekening en werd daarin bijgestaan door Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield). De muziek en vocalen werden opgenomen in de Cederberg Studios in Oslo. De hoes werd gemaakt door de Koreaanse artiest Sang Jun Yoo.

De band die in twee decennia evolueerde van death metal naar droomrock, had het volgende te vertellen over het nieuwe album: “Distant Satellites is the culmination of everything Anathema has been working up to so far in our musical path. It contains almost every conceivable element of the heartbeat of Anathema music that it is possible to have. There is beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band has previously only hinted at. All built on the songwriting chemistry of Daniel, John and Vincent — and the haunting voice of Lee Douglas. We hope the fans get as much joy from listening to and feeling the music as we did in creating it.”

Recentelijk bracht Anathema nog een concertregistratie uit onder de naam Universal.
