Bij het debuut in 2012 werd de band Soen vrijwel continu vergeleken met Tool. De sfeer van de muziek, de instrumentatie en de bezwerende zang deden inderdaad sterk denken aan de band die inmiddels al dertien jaar op nieuw werk laat wachten. Op album nummer twee en drie waren de Tool referenties nog niet weg, maar werden de Floydiaanse invloeden steeds groter.

Anno 2019 zijn we aanbeland bij album nummer vier dat de titel Lotus meekreeg en werd voorzien van stijlvol artwork. Het album verschijnt op 1 februari en zal de liefhebbers van hun eerdere albums zeker niet teleurstellen. Lotus is het logische vervolg op Lykaia. Soen is een progressief en tamelijk eigenzinnig gezelschap en toont dat bijvoorbeeld in de clip voor het nummer Martyrs. Op bijzonder fraaie titelnummer is duidelijk dat de Floydiaanse invloeden nog sterker zijn dan voorheen. De gitaarsolo had zo van Gilmour kunnen komen. De plaat werd geproduceerd door David Castillo en Iñaki Marconi in de herfst van 2018. Gitarist Cody Ford maakt zijn debuut op dit album en drukt meteen zijn stempel met diverse stevige riffs.

Voormalig Opeth drummer en Soen oprichter Martin Lopez zei het volgende: “Lotus is a summoning of like-minded people that have reached that turning point in their lives where they have had enough. Enough of meaningless and shallow societies and their expected standards. Only once you have liberated yourself from these fake ideals and leave all of that behind, one can be truly free. We are all very fortunate to have this place where we can go and explore thoughts, perspectives and emotions which everyday life maybe does not have the room for. There are definitely things that we say, and places we go, in Soen which would be very hard to express without us coming together and creating music.”

Zanger Joel Ekelöf voegt daaraan toe: “Lotus is about rising from whatever darkness, or dark places, you might find yourself. And its inspiration comes from a deep motivation to not just settle for the situation you might find yourself in. ‘Lotus’ is about changing life — both your own and your surroundings for which we must all take responsibility — and make them better rather than letting darkness pacify you and take you down.”

Soen start haar Europese toer in maart. Op 23 maart staat de band in de Q Factory in Amsterdam en een dag eerder kun je ze zien en horen op het Prognosis festival in de Effenaar in Eindhoven samen met Haken, Tesseract, Leprous en nog vele andere bands.
