De legendarische thrashband Testament brengt in oktober hun nieuwe album The Dark Roots Of Earth uit via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD wordt momenteel opgenomen onder leiding van producer Andy Sneap die eerder werkte met Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy en Machine Head.

Drummer Paul Bostaph ontbreekt om medische redenen in de studio. De drumpartijen worden daarom ingespeeld door de beste metaldrummer: Gene “The Atomic Clock” Hoglan (ex-Dark Angel, ex-Strapping Yound Lad). Bostaph zal ook niet met de band op tournee gaan. Hoglan had daarvoor in zijn drukke schema geen tijd zodat Jon Allen van Sadus op de kruk zal plaatsnemen. The Dark Roots Of Earth is de opvolger van The Formation Of Damnation (2008) en zal een gastoptreden bevatten van Lamb of God’s Chris Adler.

Over de situatie rondom Paul Bostaph zei zanger Chuck Billy het volgende: “Paul is injured right now, so he couldn’t do the record. We kind of put the record off a little while waiting for Paul. We found out he was not gonna be ready, so we brought on Gene Hoglan. Gene Hoglan came in and crushed, killed the drums in about a week. And Gene couldn’t do shows, so we have Jon Allen performing today with us from Sadus.”

Over de nieuwe plaat zei imposante brulboei Billy het volgende “Alex Skolnick and everybody really contributed to the writing of this album, so it’s really, really a true Testament record. With the previous one, Alex just touched it, played some solos and it really felt good, ’cause we structured the songs for him. But this one, everybody really contributed.”
