Onder de titel Collaborative Works, een verzameling van de EPs Loon, Stare en Life Story Love And Glory en 7 nieuwe composities van hun Trance Frendz studio film, brengen Ólafur Arnalds en Nils Frahm hun samenwerking glorieus opnieuw uit. Het werk verschijnt op 3xvinyl en 2xCD.

Zoals Arnalds het zelf zegt: ‘The music on Collaborative Works is a collection of our studio collaborations from recent years. We would meet in Reykjavik or Berlin with the intention to share some days off work, hiking, swimming or eating pizza. That is great for a couple days, but after a while we would always end up back in the studio, fiddling with synths or pianos. This collection of recordings cannot be an album. It will remain a collage of our studio experiments of the past. It simply is convenient to have them all together here, so you don’t need to look out for some limited 10” somewhere or deal with a nerdy record dealer in Japan to track down this one 7 ̋ which will turn out to sound pretty rough anyways… consider them as moments in space and time where we shared the same room for some days to come down and enjoy making music. After deciding to release the studio collaborations, we planned to do a video session of us performing an improvised duet to promote the release. On the 28th of July 2015 we met up at Durton Studio in Berlin and invited Alexander Schneider and his camera to document it.”

Stare (2012) was de eerste samenwerking tussen de gevierde Erased Tapes helden Ólafur Arnalds en Nils Frahm met celliste Anne Müller als extra hulptroep. De opnamen vonden plaats in 2010 in Reykjavík en Berlijn.

Loon (2015) continueerde de ambient sound van Stare maar bevatte wel meer percussie en had zelfs dub invloeden. Voor de EP linkte de mannen de Oberheim 4 Voice en een Korg PS3100 aan hun bay/mixing desk en speelden alle tracks live in. Met vier handen op de toetsen werden de opnamen gelijk opgenomen op 2-track ½-inch tape.

Life Story Love And Glory (2015) is een 2-track live improvisatie met twee piano’s, die werden opgenomen in Nils’s huis in oktober 2012, op de dag voordat de twee op tour gingen voor de Erased Tapes 5th Anniversary Tour. De EP werd uitgebracht op 21 augustus 2015 als 7 inch single. Verrassend genoeg werd de single, eerst alleen als vinyl uitgebracht (pas twee weken later digitaal), een ware hit en kwam in Engeland de hitlijsten op 3 binnen om vervolgens 3 weken in de top 10 te blijven.

Trance Frendz (2015) bevat de opnamen van hun 45 minuten durende studio film. Officieel gepland als korte video sessie van eerder uitgebrachte tracks, warden al snel 7 volslagen nieuwe composities/improvisatie opgenomen, een prachtig document van hun muzikale vriendschap. De opnamen werden op 1 september 2015 uitgebracht als onderdeel van hun samenwerkingswebsite http://arnaldsfrahm.com
