Folkpunker Frank Turner komt met nieuw album (+update)
Goed nieuws voor liefhebbers van de folkpunk van Frank Turner: de Brit komt deze zomer met een nieuw album, twee jaar na voorganger Poetry Of The Deed. Dit nieuwe album, Turner’s vierde, krijgt de titel England Keep My Bones. UPDATE: de eerste single is inmiddels te horen. De titel is Peggy Sang The Blues. Als dit nummer exemplarisch is voor het hele album, dan staat ons nog wat erg moois te wachten, als het album op 6 juni uitkomt! Luister én kijk hieronder maar eens.
England Keep My Bones is opgenomen in de Church Studios (in de Noord-Londense wijk Crouch End’s). De productie was in handen van Tristan Ivemy, een jonge en talentvolle producer die eerder werkte met onder meer Babyshambles en Magic Numbers.
Turner’s label Epitaph belooft een album met een “nostalgic feel to it, an homage to his homeland, friends and family he so often has to leave behind. With the acoustic guitar very much at its core, the album is more folky than predecessor Poetry Of The Deed and even includes an a cappella song done in a traditional English style. Featuring contributions from ex-Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay, folk singers Emily Barker and Chris T-T and Unbelievable Truth’s Andy Yorke, he covers themes of mortality, relationships and religion in what is a bold, ballsy yet beautiful album.” Woorden die dus veel goeds beloven!
Turner zelf zegt over England Keep My Bones: “I can’t wait to get this record out there. The new songs have been going down really well live, but I think that when people hear the studio versions they’re going to go nuts. I think it’s the strongest set of material I’ve had on one record.”
De muzikant zal zijn album ook promoten met een tour. Data voor Nederland zijn nog niet bekend, behalve dan een soloconcert als support act voor Social Distortion, op 22 juni in Paradiso (Amsterdam). Dat concert is overigens al uitverkocht.
